About the Author – Al Lautenslager
I became known for extensive research and focus on the history of baseball, particularly in terms of stories about the game’s pioneers, integration, and the cultural shifts within the sport. The phrase “Al Writes Baseball” likely evokes a sense of historical storytelling, as I have a reputation for documenting the personal journeys of figures in baseball—often those who were marginalized or underrated in the broader narrative.
My work, such as his biographies and examinations of baseball figures, would suggest that this phrase could represent a detailed and insightful exploration of the game’s evolution, its key figures, and the profound impact baseball has had on American society.

Current
Al Lautenslager, a resident of Phoenix, Arizona, is an eight-times published, best-selling author, entrepreneur, book collector, businessperson, professional speaker who is passionate about baseball. His other titles are attached within this proposal. Al currently is enjoying a retired life pursuing his passions of baseball, travel, writing and family life.
Other passions are Da Vinci, Renaissance history and Tuscany, Italy. He has traveled to Italy to see Renaissance history in full view, in Da Vinci’s own country. He has lived a life like da Vinci as an engineer and writer, with multi-disciplined interests, curiosities, skills and more. His pursuit of art and Da Vinci history comes from the research for his authored book, Da Vinci Visits Today and the many Da Vinci books in his collection. The same for his pursuit of Tuscan history and winemaking.
His passion of baseball has extended to his working as a Spring Training Usher for the Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Guardians at Goodyear Ballpark.
Al’s visits to any ballpark, major or minor league, on his travels, makes Al the penultimate baseball fan. These passions combined with his strong writing desire, his best-seller status, and his proven track record of being able to market and sell books, makes him the clear choice to write Cincinnati Soul.
More About Al
Al has the ability to tell the stories necessary to connect with his audiences. From his personal experiences, he turns facts and chronology into innovative narratives. It is this quality that will come out also in the writing of Cincinnati Soul.
He is not only a well-known business author and contributor. Since his youth he has been an avid baseball fan either as a spectator or a player. Growing up in Cincinnati before, during and after the days of the Big Red Machine, Al put together a string of 10 straight Cincinnati Red opening day game attendances. Opening Day in Cincinnati is a holiday. Al treated it as such and still marks the day on his calendar.
He has visited over half of the Major League Baseball ballparks during his travels in addition to visits to over a dozen minor league games and parks. In 1983 Al drove to Philadelphia, attended game 4 of the Worlds Series against the Baltimore Orioles, and returned to his home in Dayton, Ohio, all in 24 hours’ time just because he was passionate about seeing the World Series Game that year. He has been to All Star games and attended the very first game in the new Comiskey Park in Chicago.
In 1993 on a return plane trip from St. Louis to Chicago, Al had the privilege to sit next to and enjoy a one-on-one conversation with hall of famer, Lou Brock. Lou and Al talked about Pete Rose, the trade that brought Lou Brock took from Chicago to St. Louis, the hall of fame ring on his finger and even life outside of baseball. This plane ride was a dream come true for any baseball fan and Al was able to live that dream.
Al met Pete Rose on the day he hit his Ty Cobb, 4192 record breaking hit and was at the game where Pete hit number 4256, his last Major League hit. In his home library, under a framed picture of the old Crosley Field in Cincinnati, his current baseball book collection contains every Pete Rose book ever written as well as many volumes by Roger Angell, Roger Kahn, Bill James, Jonathan Eig, George Will, and many, many other baseball writers.
Al is an accomplished businessman, speaker and communicator, and marketing book author and understands the value of good publicity and promotion. As a result, he has built close ties to the media, sports contacts authorities and opinion makers
